In December 1938, Glenn, the owner of the United States Line, a ship company, comes back to New York City with his daughter Mary, aboard the SS Washington, after a trip to London. Mary is a nincompoop. She just wants to have fun, she loves boys but she's got a husband. She's also pretty and she likes partying. Every Saturday she goes to night clubs!
One night, in winter, they decided to listen to Benny Goodman and his band at the Carnegie Hall. It was fabulous, everybody was dancing and singing in the hall. It was Swing time.
Then, Mary and her father decided to go to the Cotton Club, to eat and dance the night away. After a while, she decided to go out and get some fresh air.
It was dark and cold outside. She heard a sharp noise... She turned round and saw a blue car at the end of the back street. The car lit its headlights up and laid into Mary. Then, a man in the car pulled out his gun and opened fire on her. The killer got out of his car and stole her money. A passerby heard that noise and ran into the restaurant to phone to the police.
But it was too late, Mary was dead and the killer disappeared in the darkness.
