You're traveling through another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead... Your next stop :
Hello everybody today I'm going to present one of my favourites TV series ! The Twilight Zone is a very old broadcast, it began in 1959 in the USA on CBS. The show was created by Rod Serling, during an interview Serling said to the journalist "I want to impress the audience". The show tells different stories about supernatural phenomenons or fantastic events ( ex : space invaders, another world, a watch which can stop time...).
Here is Rod Serling
The opening of the show is very strange, the music is scary and a narrator say you're going to enter another dimension.
This is the opening of the show in 1962:
After the opening the narrator introduces the setting of the scene and the main character ( the narrator is Rod Serling the creator of the show, during the 1st season he just comments as a voice-over but after for the 2nd season he decided to appear on screen) and gives a lot of information : age, name, job... and says he's going to enter the Twilight Zone very soon.
An episode lasts about 20 or 25 min and in the end there's always a punch line to justify the impossible events and why you entered in the Twilight Zone. The show aired between 1959 and 1964 with 5 seasons and 156 episodes. The "special effects" of the show are not perfect ( of course at the time they couldn't do better ) and sometimes I see a lot of very funny scenes which make me laugh because the special effects were ridiculous but it's funny. You can see a lot of stereotypes about aliens or flying saucer for example: the alien with 3 hands, the flying saucer which makes a "bip bip bip boop boop" sound when it flies etc...
In 1964, CBS decided to stop the show because the audience ratings were bad and Rod Serling had a lot of financial problems so he decided to stop the show.

21 years later in 1985, the Twilight Zone came back on TV screens, now in colors and it took the bases of the 60s version. The show aired between 1985 and 1989, still called the "Twilight Zone" or sometimes "The New Twilight Zone". The broadcast made a last come-back on TV in 2002 with just one season and finally stopped in 2003. The versions of the 80s and 2000s are not very interesting first because unfortunately Rod Serling died in 1975 so it is another director and the storyline of the episodes are boring and repetitives.
The Twilight Zone was a pioneer of Sci Fi TV series, the broadcast leaved its mark on minds and a lot of nowadays shows make references to the Twilight Zone like in "The Simpson" when Bart buy a stopwatch which can stop time or in Doctor Who when the Doctor goes in New York in the 1930s when people with a pig face attack. Altogether the Twilight Zone counts 256 episodes between 1964 and 2003.
I hope you enjoyed my presentation and now I'm going to introduce delightful people you can meet in the Twilight Zone...
